Privacy
No accounts, no cookies, no ad tracking.
howtheyscale is a reading tool. It doesn’t ask who you are, and it doesn’t sell or share anything about you.
What stays in your browser
Two preferences are saved in your browser’s local storage, on your device only, and are never sent to a server:
- which posts you marked as studied, and whether to hide them;
- whether you chose light or dark mode.
Clearing your browser’s site data removes them. They aren’t used to identify you.
What gets measured
The site uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to count page views and measure loading speed. They are cookie-free and don’t follow you across sites, so there is no cookie banner. Vercel, which hosts the site, also keeps standard server logs (such as requests and IP addresses) for a limited time to run and secure the service.
What we store about posts
The database holds the notes shown on the site (title, company, link, date, summary, tags, topic, interview angle and difficulty) in a Supabase-hosted Postgres database. Nothing about visitors is stored there. Searches you type aren’t stored by the site, but they appear in the page address, so they can show up in the standard server logs mentioned above.
Notes are generated with Anthropic’s Claude API from public blog feeds. No visitor data is sent to it.
Links out
Entries link to articles on other sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which this page doesn’t cover.
